BYE BYE Ertiga! Hyundai Stargazer Launch in India? What to Expect from 7-Seater MPV Car

Hyundai unveiled two new MPVs at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) – the Staria and the Stargazer. While the Staria seems a bit out of reach, the Stargazer has a more practical design that could potentially rival popular options in India, like the Maruti Ertiga.

Standing Out from the Crowd

The Stargazer boasts a modern and futuristic look. Imagine the bold design of the Staria, but in a more compact size. It features a striking front fascia with a continuous LED daytime running light strip, unique quad-pod headlights, and a sharp bonnet. The sharp creases and flared wheel arches on the sides add a touch of sportiness, while the sleek H-shaped taillights complete the futuristic theme in the back.

Comfort and Convenience on the Inside

Step inside the Stargazer, and you might find some familiar elements from the pre-facelift Hyundai i20. The dashboard layout and features share some similarities. The 6-seater variant showcased at BIMS offered luxurious captain seats in the second row that can slide and recline for maximum comfort. A 7-seater option is also available for those who need extra passenger space.

Hyundai didn’t forget practicality either. The Stargazer is packed with storage compartments on the dashboard and center console, along with conveniently placed bottle holders, especially on the rear doors.

Tech and Safety Features You Can Rely On

The Stargazer comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, making your drives more entertaining and informative. Plus, you get the convenience of wireless phone charging and automatic climate control. Safety is a priority too, with features like lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert keeping you and your passengers protected. The car also boasts up to six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and electronic stability control (ESC) for additional peace of mind.

Engine and Transmission Options

For now, the Hyundai Stargazer in Thailand is a petrol-only option. It’s powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission for a more engaged driving experience or a CVT (continuously variable transmission) for a smoother ride.

Will the Stargazer Make it to India?

Unfortunately, the chances of seeing the Stargazer on Indian roads seem slim at the moment. Hyundai’s focus in India appears to be on its existing 3-row SUV, the Alcazar, which is expected to receive a facelift soon. This facelift will likely bring new features to help it compete with rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.

While the Stargazer might not be coming to India anytime soon, it’s an exciting addition to the MPV segment globally, offering a blend of style, comfort, and practicality.
